A giant 10 metre diameter 'flying saucer' dominates the reception area of First Leisure's new Family Entertainment Centre at Croydon. It was created using Archifab technology by Torclad, who designed and manufactured the feature from an artist's impression.
The individual segments of the structure were fabricated in Torclad's workshop and transported conveniently as separate element to site. The segments were assembled in-situ and secured to a retaining steel framework.
The final result is an eye-catching feature that is sophisticated, lightweight and fire retardant. Archifab composites technology created an exceptional solution that could not have been achieved using conventional materials and assembly techniques. In addition, there was the added advantage of a significantly accelerated timescale.
